Card designed for my mom by my beautiful and talented sister!

To all of my wonderful mommy readers, thank you for making being a mom so much more fun and so much less lonely.. I seriously feel like I couldn’t do it without all of you! So thank you for all of the advice, encouragement, companionship and virtual shoulders to cry on.

My mother’s day weekend was busy.. Saturday morning Jeff & I I took Jasper to get his first haircut! I took so many pictures it warrants it’s own future post (later this week). That afternoon I drove Jasper to Brooklyn by myself for the first time to celebrate Lola’s second birthday.

Lola blows out her candle with a little help from Mom.

Jasper bonding with his new best friend Yannis.

We had a fabulous brunch, a little too much prosecco and then Lola’s mom Sara, my friend Amy and I took Lola & Jasper to prospect park for some pictures.

It was 4pm or so, NOT the ideal time for pictures. The sun was too high in the sky still, and what little shade there was either was dotted with people or dappled but it didn’t keep me from trying! Last time we tried to get these two to hug or give each other a kiss Jasper was playing hard to get.. but not this time. Maybe Jasper knew that this was his last chance to get a kiss from Lola before she moves to San Francisco? Either way, I got this series of images of the two of them together that kind of shocked me because they look so OLD together.. I mean they look like kids, but there’s something in their interaction that makes them look like high school sweethearts or something! (I also think that with his new haircut Jasper looks a bit like a toddler version of Stefan Salvatore from Vampire Diaries. Yes, I am aware that with that statement I am admitting that I watch Vampire Diaries!)

That last picture alone was worth the trip to Brooklyn! Which incidentally, went pretty well. At least the trip THERE went well. Jasper napped and woke up just before we arrived. The way back was a little trickier because a) Jasper was awake and b) my GPS refused to acquire signal at prospect park leaving me clueless how to get home. Thank god for the iPhone because I was able to use my yahoo maps ap to guide me to the Brooklyn Bridge. Jasper whined most of the way to the bridge culminating in him dropping Bear on the FDR (for those of you who haven’t driven on the FDR there is no shoulder, no where to pull over and retrieve a bear!) Finally, thankfully, he fell asleep about twenty minutes from home. Figures that as soon as I feel confident enough to tote Jasper back and forth to Brooklyn for playdates with our best friends half of them have already moved or are moving to the West Coast!

Sunday (mother’s day) was really nice, I got a gorgeous boquet of flowers and both of my grandmother’s, my aunt Ellen and my cousin Ryan came to visit. I hadn’t seen Ryan in forever and it was his first time meeting Jasper.. Jasper was quite enthralled with his new playmate. Unfortunately the crazy high winds (gusting at about 50mph all day!) did our power and cable in, so it was an “unplugged” day, which was a little crazy but also kind of a nice change of pace.. I read myself to sleep last night for the first time in I don’t know how long.

So my off the grid mother’s day is why I may not have answered your text, email or facebook mother’s day message, but I assure you I was thinking about all of you yesterday and hoping you all had the wonderful and relaxing day you deserve!

I am so swamped, it’s amazing how losing one day can just completely put you behind! But anyway, just wanted to post quickly about our little memorial day gathering..

Brian, Ami & Peyton came over for a few hours and Sara, Mando and little Lola made the trek from Brooklyn via train. It was a gorgeous day so we set up the baby jail with some blankets out on the deck for the little ones to play in:

Brian helped Jeff put up the canopy we bought at Ikea over the Pergola, but he and Ami had to leave before we could enjoy it:

Lola did manage to enjoy herself under the Pergola though:

But not so much on the grass – she’s a city girl through and through!

There was some Monkeying around on monkey bars:

Some belly laughs in the swing:

And some snuggling on the deck:

and some enjoying the beautiful light at sunset:

And most importantly, the sharing of happy memories with family & friends:

View the whole set of images here.

Not only are Sara & Mando blessed with a beautiful (and very photogenic!) baby girl, but she may also be the easiest going baby I have EVER met.

At one point in the afternoon when she got tired she put her head on her Daddy’s chest and took a nap. Right there in the living room. With a party going on around her!!!!??

Clearly Jasper could learn a thing or two from her.. we need to get together more often and hopefully a little of that will rub off on him. Wouldn’t that be nice?

Perfect little Lola does have one tiny flaw though, she’s terribly afraid of grass of all things! So much so that it almost motivated her to take her first step ever just to get out of it – and I even have the video to prove it:

I love the wasy she tries to point that little foot and leg up in the air so it doesn’t touch the ground. Isn’t that the cutest thing ever?

OK, back to the grindstone!

The Kentucky Derby would have gone completely unnoticed in our house if our friends Brian and Ami hadn’t invited us to their Derby Day Party on Saturday. They don’t do anything halfway, so I knew we’d have to get serious about our “costumes.” Luckily I found a giant brimmed hat from Marshalls for me to wear and a cute little blue Polo onesie for Jasper. And Jeff had the perfect newsboy hat for the occasion.

I also seized the opportunity to use some of my vintage presets on the photos and created two new ones I’m rather fond of now, Cross Processed II (used on most of the pictures of Jeff & Jasper together) and “Old Timey with a kick” used on the photos of Brian and Amy that are sort of sepia faded. I updated my presets pack with these new ones, so if you’ve already downloaded it, you might want to grab it again (and don’t forget to join the Becoming Mom flickr group!).

I would write more but poor Jasper woke up with 102 fever this morning and no other symptoms.. (what could that be??)

I hope you all had a great weekend!

Thursday I got an unexpected call from my friend Allison. Allison was my best friend from college but we haven’t spoken in a really long time. So long in fact, that when she called and I asked her if she even knew I was pregnant she responded by asking if I knew she had a baby two months ago!

So yes, we’ve been a little out of touch. I was thrilled to hear that she and her husband Daniel were in NY visiting her parents so we could get together and I could meet her adorable daughter Sophie Maya.

Not only was it fun to catch up with them after so long, but having a newborn in the house now that we have everything all set up for Jasper was like having a dress rehearsal! Thanks to little Sophie for being Jasper’s stand-in and trying out all of the fun toys we haven’t used yet.

I was able to practice my portrait photography:

Sophie sleeping on Dad’s shoulder

Sophie sleeping in Dad’s hands.

And then when she started fussing, we but her in the bouncy seat.. which she’ didn’t like so much.

Then, we put her in the swing, which she seemed to love! Allison changed her on Jasper’s changing pad and nursed her in the glider. Allison gave the glider rave reviews and I got a short real time lesson in breast feeding. We even pulled out the My Breast Friend Pillow!

It seems that on the “gear” front we are quite prepared for Jasper’s arrival, all we need now is the little leading man himself.

PS, I now have only 9 days until D day… that’s single digits baby!!!

We had a birthday BBQ for Jeff at our house this Saturday and all the babies were in tow, including a surprise appearance by brand new baby Lola and her mommy and daddy Sara and Mando. Sara looks amazing for just 10 days post c-section and baby Lola is just beautiful:

Sara and baby Lola

In our group of friends, there has been a new baby every 3 months or so. Now with Sara having given birth, I’m on deck!

It’s a little scary being next I must say, but seeing how well our friends have taken to parenting and and spending time with their adorable daughters has made us even more excited to have Jasper “on the outside.”

Between all of the other house preparations that my amazing husband did, he still found time to hang a baby swing that Daphne broke in for us:

Daphne enjoying our new baby swing

After the party Mike, Tracy and baby Gemma decided to stay over so I had a chance to snap some photos of them in the morning, this is my favorite:

Gemma and daddy Mike

Having baby Gemma spend the night was so much fun, she broke in the dresser/changing table and sat with her mommy in the glider (and gave it rave reviews!) All of the sudden the nursery went from “room in waiting” to a place that I could actually see myself and our baby using.

Even though the party was a lot of fun, it was entirely too much for me to take on at this point in my pregnancy.. Friday night while shopping for groceries I was having Braxton Hicks contractions almost constantly for over an hour. It was pretty scary.

Sunday, we had big plans to pick up the crib from Walmart and set it up, but we were both so exhausted that we only managed to pick it up. So now its in the back of my Xterra – taunting me because the next evening we have free time to set it up is Wednesday. I’ll post some pictures then!

Yesterday we got to meet Mike & Tracy's beautiful baby girl Gemma, who was born in the wee hours of Feb 20th.

It was a group affair as a whole slew of us met for a lovely brunch and then descended on the new little family. I have mentioned before that in my group of friends there are 4 couples, 2 of which have had their babies in the past 2 months and 2 (including me) that are pregnant.

Yesterday we got to meet Mike & Tracy’s beautiful baby girl Gemma, who was born in the wee hours of Feb 20th.

It was a group affair as a whole slew of us met for a lovely brunch and then descended on the new little family. I have mentioned before that in my group of friends there are 4 couples, 2 of which have had their babies in the past 2 months and 2 (including me) that are pregnant. But never before have I posted a picture of all four of us together until Jay sent me this one:

The Four Breeders, from left to right: Sara (due in March), Sarah holding Tracy’s daughter Gemma, me holding Sarah’s daughter Daphne and Tracy.

And then there were these other highlights..

Jeff holding baby Gemma

Daphne’s Dad Jay wearing a bit of Daphne’s lunch on his shirt

Amy holding Daphne.

So, two down, two to go.. and since Gemma turned out to be a girl and Sara knows she’s having a girl, Jeff & I are the last chance our little group has at a boy. I think I might feel a little bit left out of the girl posse though if it does turn out we’re having a boy!
