HSG - All Clear!
November 14th, 2007 by ariana

What’s that? That, my friends, is the star of the reproductive show. Uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries all lit up courtesy of the radiological die inserted through a catheter into my cervix and the test known as the Hysterosalpingogram (HSG for short) also known as Painful Procedure from Hell.
But, much to my absolute shock, it didn’t hurt even a little bit! Ok, well the cramps afterwards hurt like my normal period pains do, but I’m pretty used to that sensation. The hype and the build-up were way worse than the actual procedure.
I think I was lucky, the lab tech and radiologist were incredibly understanding and skilled which I think makes all the difference. The radiologist told me his goal was that I didn’t even feel the die go in (I didn’t) which can be the really painful part of the procedure, particularly if your tubes are blocked at all.
The best part of all? The instant feedback. Within about 30 seconds I knew that my tubes were completely clear and there was no sign of the suspected uterine polyp. They even gave me a CD with all the images one it. (Cool, that’s one to keep everyone entertained at family gatherings…)
I am so relieved to have this test behind me, and even more relieved that I haven’t been shooting myself up like a junkie for nothing! Yes, the eggs I’m maturing on both sides this month actually have a shot at reaching their destination.
The results of the test leave a lingering question. If my tubes are clear, I ovulate every month, Jeffs sperm is great, then what the hell is the problem??
I guess we now officially have both feet firmly planted in the “Unexplained Infertility” diagnosis.
